Nestled in the heart of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill isn’t just another scream factory.

Guests should expect to spend most of the evening enjoying all of Kim’s Krypt offers.

This is my review of Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill at 5932 Colonial Valley Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362.

On October 15th, 2022, I took the 47-minute trek and visited Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill.

When I visit a haunted attraction, I consider the following:

  • Atmosphere
  • Organization
  • Actors
  • Sounds

This review will go over my experience and answer some common questions.

The setting as you drive into the attraction is spooky, too.

About Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill

Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill is a family-fun, 64.5-acre haunted attraction where you can walk through five haunts.

Kim Yates owns and operates it and bought the haunt from its previous owners in 2014 at an auction.

As of now, there is no haunted hayride.

Kim's Krypt Haunted Mill

The most popular haunt is an old Grist Mill dating back to the late 1700s.

A food truck selling hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, and other foods was also on the premises. Another vendor sold lemonade, churros, cotton candy, and other sweet delights.

And a little snack bar near the ticket window sells water, soda, chips, and candy.

There was a DJ playing dance music, plenty of tables to sit at, and many outdoor displays, like a giant dragon that popped up behind a fence.

(Hey DJ, please play the 80s or horror/Halloween-themed music.)

Also, security is located on the premises.

Be sure to visit Kim’s Krypt gift shop while you’re there. They have tons of small gifts and clothing you can rock while enjoying the haunt.

As you step inside, the oppressive atmosphere thickens, laden with the whispers of restless spirits and the chilling anticipation of what lurks around each bend.

Kim’s Krypt isn’t a one-trick pony. It boasts multiple attractions, each with its unique brand of terror.

The Haunted Mill takes you on a journey through time, from the dusty corners of a forgotten gristmill to the blood-soaked chambers of a vengeful miller.

The Horror of Menges Mill plunges you into a twisted carnival of grotesqueries, where demented clowns and sideshow freaks vie for your screams.

And for those seeking an extra adrenaline rush, the Escape Room challenges you to unravel a chilling mystery before time runs out.

What truly sets Kim’s Krypt apart is the sheer attention to detail. Every inch of the haunt is meticulously themed, from the crumbling facades to the hauntingly realistic props.

The actors are phenomenal, embodying their roles with a commitment that will send shivers down your spine.

The lighting, sound effects, and special effects work together to create a truly immersive and unsettling experience.

What sets Kim’s Krypt apart is its commitment to storytelling.

The haunted mill is divided into different themed sections, each telling a different part of a larger, interconnected narrative.

This adds an extra layer of depth to the overall experience, making it more than just a series of scares but a journey through a haunted story.

Whether you’re a seasoned haunt veteran or a curious newcomer, Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill has something to offer.

It’s a place where adrenaline junkies can test their mettle and horror lovers can indulge in their macabre fascinations.

The actors are skilled at creating a truly immersive experience, utilizing jump scares, unsettling ambiance, and expertly crafted makeup and costumes to keep visitors on edge.

Kim’s Krypt Mill : My Experience

My wife and I visited The Haunted Mill on a Saturday in mid-October. It was warm that night, but I brought a cap and a warm hoodie just in case I needed them.

We arrived when it opened at 6 p.m. I prepurchased my tickets online to avoid the hassle of buying them at the Mill.

Even though I purchased it online, I still had to take it to the ticket counter, where the barcode on my receipt was scanned.

Your barcode can also be scanned from your cell phone.

After that, you will be given actual tickets to enter the haunts.

There were only twenty people when we arrived, which was great. I had no idea if it would be crowded or not, which it wasn’t.

The lovely lady at the ticket counter told us that only the Haunted Mill and House of Eyes were open now. The rest would be open once it got dark around 7 pm.

The atmosphere at Kim’s Krypt is nothing short of eerie and foreboding.

The exterior of the haunted mill sets the stage with its worn and hauntingly atmospheric facade.

As you approach, the sounds of distant screams and unsettling music create an anticipation that builds with every step.

The set design pays commendable attention to detail, with each area of the haunt offering a unique and terrifying environment.

When we got there, a few actors were on the grounds. A shirtless man covered in blood seemed to enjoy taunting the patrons.

I also chatted with a likable actor dressed in Victorian-Era Gothic clothing.

As I mentioned, this is my fourth time going to the mill, but it is my first time since Kim purchased the property in 2014.

When we got there, the atmosphere felt stale. There was not a lot of energy or enthusiasm. It was early, though.

Also, the famous scary clown Trixie wasn’t in costume there, but Kim was. I talked with her for a while and got a picture.

I told her I once lived in Rosedale, where she lives now and where she started her first haunt in 1994.

House of Eyes

My wife and I went through the House of Eyes first. There was a small line, but we had R.I.P. access, so we waited only ten minutes.

The House of Eyes is inside an old barn across the street from the entrance. A man stops traffic so you can safely cross the street. The Terror Trail is also located across the street.

I was impressed with the props used in the House of Eyes and all the haunts. Kim’s Krypt put a lot of time and attention into creating their haunted attractions.

My wife and I walked through with just the two of us. We weren’t part of a group in this one.

The total walk-through time was about fifteen minutes, give or take. I like to take my time and soak in all the room’s terrifying horror, but my wife pushed me through, so I saw what I could.

The Haunted Mill

The Haunted Mill

This was by far my favorite haunt. I am an American History Buff, and I love visiting historical sites. To me, our landmark buildings should be preserved, which Kim did when she bought the Historic Haunted Mill.

This time, my wife and I went in with another family. I was the first one in and had to lead the way. The Mill is dark inside, and you enter the basement and the attic.

I was lucky because the actors would go after the last person in the group and not the first. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I lost track of how long we were in there, maybe a half hour. It was cool.

They have these powerful air cannons that almost blow you away when you pass by them.

The first time I walked through the Haunted Mill in 1999, most of it was pitch black, and you had to feel your way around. You had to feel your way through the narrow walkways, and in some parts, you had to crawl on your hands and knees.

The second time I went to the Mill in the early 2000s, there was more light inside and no more crawling.

The Horror of Menges Mills

Another walk-through attraction is located inside a building. My wife and I walked through this one, too, by ourselves. I don’t get scared easily, but my wife does.

Once again, many animatronics and prop designs are incredible.

Near the end was an out-of-this-world dragon’s lair. You’ll love walking through it.

Dark Despair

DARK DESPAIR! This black mass of eternal damnation will suck your soul and leave you disoriented, and you MUST go through alone and hope you survive. It features total darkness, confusion, and a sense of delirium.

The Dark Despair was a mess. It’s a small building where you go in and must find your way out in complete darkness. When my wife and I went in, about twenty people were lost inside.

You have to put your hands out to feel your way through. The walls were inflatable, so you wouldn’t get hurt while walking through.

We eventually found our way back to the entrance and left the building. This would be a good attraction for small groups, but don’t go in if it is already packed.

The Terror Trail

The Terror Trail
Kim’s Krypt Terror Trail

The Terror Trail was our last haunt. My wife and I walked through alone. Before entering, you walk into a building where you are shown some of Kim’s horror collections.

Afterward, you enter another room where a young girl tries to “scare us” into obeying the rules. Her demeanor and words put me off when she told us not to touch the actors or the props.

She was loud and demeaning in her approach. I’m thinking, girl, this is not my first rodeo, and I just shelled out $190 to be talked to like this.

Anyway, after the verbal tongue-lashing, we entered the Terror trail. It’s an outdoor walking haunt that takes you through various scenes and buildings.

There are actors along the way that try to scare you. It was enjoyable and long.

Kim’s Krypt Review Conclusion

Kim's Krypt Haunted Mill Entrance Sign

We spent over $200, including food and drinks, and two and a half hours there.

When we arrived, it was a slow start, but the parking lot was crowded when we left at 8:30. The vibe was chill, and it was awesome to be on the grounds of a historic site.

Kim is very passionate about horror, which shows in the set designs and props. I would love to walk through the haunts by myself without any actors jumping out so I can soak in the incredible scenery.

As with most haunts in the region that don’t employ actual actors. This is an ample missed opportunity for most of the local haunts I’ve been to.

Maybe go to local colleges or theaters and pay for some people with acting and makeup abilities.

I like to see not only actual actors but actors with size.

Only once in my life as an adult did I feel somewhat intimidated by a haunt actor. He was dressed as Michael Meyers and stood still, waiting for us to pass him.

He was about 6’5″ and approximately 230 pounds.

I don’t recall what haunt he was located at, though.

Since I was a kid, I have been to dozens of haunts. Some of them were local and were set up in the woods.

Below are some haunts I’ve been to in the last twenty-two years.

  • The Haunted Mill
  • Field Of Screams
  • Jason’s Woods
  • Bedlam In the Boro
  • Fort Howard Haunted Dungeons
  • Legends of The Fog
  • Huber’s Haunted Hayride
  • Six Flags Fright Fest
  • Ghost Tour of Strasburg
  • Ghost Tour Of Fell’s Point
  • Ghost Tour of Gettysburg
  • MT Vernon Ghost Walk

In conclusion, nothing beats a haunt on a haunted historic site.

>>>Opportunities. More food vendors and more quality actors.

Maybe purchasers of R.I.P. tickets can get a free t-shirt.

The haunt’s staff is friendly, professional, and dedicated to ensuring the safety of all visitors.

The lines are managed efficiently, and the overall organization of the event is well-executed, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable experience.

While Kim’s Krypt is undoubtedly a thrilling experience, it may not be suitable for the faint of heart or young children.

The intensity of the scares can be overwhelming for some, so it’s recommended for those seeking a genuinely terrifying experience.

Overall, I highly recommend Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill to anyone looking for a truly terrifying and immersive Halloween experience.

Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill is a must-visit for horror enthusiasts looking for a heart-pounding and immersive Halloween experience.

With its captivating storytelling, attention to detail, and skilled actors, this haunted attraction delivers on its promise to provide a night of spine-chilling fun.

Just remember: Enter at your own risk because the screams you hear within those haunted walls might be your own.

I hope this Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill review helps you decide whether it’s the right haunt for you.
